Hello!
My name is Katie O'Brien, and I am very excited to introduce myself!
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education K – 6 and am a Teacher of Students with Disabilities through Montclair State University. I am certified in Applied Behavior Analysis through Rutgers University and have experience working with the Educational Partnership for Instructing Children, Bergen County Special Services, Tenafly Middle School and Hawthorne Elementary School. In 2013 I was honored to be the head of the River Edge District Gifted and Talented program and received an award from the Gifted Child Society. I became a Google Level 1 Certified Educator in 2017.
After moving to New Jersey from San Francisco, I partnered with Global Care Unlimited, a student lead service learning organization operating out of Tenafly Middle School. There, we connected with Magic Johnson and CNN Hero nominee Johannes Gebregeorgis to raise funds to construct a school in Awassa, Ethiopia. I have also been the Games Specialist at a non-competitive day camp in New York. I have even had the unique opportunity to be a set designer for the Food Network T.V. shows, “Emeril Live!” and Production Assistant with "Hot off the Grill with Bobby Flay." In 2020, I was featured on NJTV: Learning Live, as I taught a virtual reading and writing lesson to students across New Jersey who were forced to stay home during the Coronavirus pandemic.
In 2016, my husband Jon Regan (principal of Demarest Middle School) and I became the proud parents of our son, Dylan Danger. In 2020, I built a fabulous 8' x 10' greenhouse, since gardening is one of my passions. When I’m not working with children, my family and I are either traveling, fishing, boating or climbing mountains!
